Pinion Gears are used for the conversion of rotary to linear motion and are commonly found in applications such as automotive steering. The Pinion Gear is attached to the end of the drive shaft and is in turn connected to the ring gear and differential axle. The rotation of the Pinion Gear plays a role in transmission of power from the engine to the wheels. The Pinion Gear rotates at a different speed compared to the ring gear and the ratio between the motion of the two is termed axle ratio.This in turn determines the torque, speed and how much power is transmitted to the wheels.
